Blackwing Volumes - Vol. 24
**This limited release is no longer available.**
The 24 is the fourth pencil in Palomino’s limited edition Volumes series. It comes in a previously unused extra-firm graphite, formulated for extended writing. The design of the pencil pays homage to famed American author John Steinbeck, who had a routine of sharpening 24 pencils at the start of every work day. Once he had dulled them all, he would resharpen and start his process again, thereby taking periodic, longer brakes from writing rather than creating lots of short interruptions. He preferred his pencils in black, believing common, yellow pencils were just another distraction from the creative process. Thus every element of the pencil—the barrel, imprint, eraser holder, and removable erasers—are all in black.

After the initial success of Palomino's graded graphite pencils, Cal Cedar was able to revive the legendary Blackwing pencil. The Blackwing was originally a Eberhart-Faber pencil that had been discontinued and later obtained cult status as pencil aficionados were paying exorbitant amounts at auction for dead stock. The Blackwing had gained a reputation as the pencil of choice for Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer and Academy Award winners, and now they have become available to a whole new generation of creatives.
