Blackwing Volumes - Vol. 73
The 73 is the ninth pencil in Blackwing's limited Volumes series. It draws inspiration from the blue waters of Lake Tahoe, famous for its natural beauty and the artists who traveled there to capture it. Over the years, the lake's color and clarity faded, but aggressive conversation efforts have helped to start the process to restore its beauty. 73 is a reference to the lake's last Secchi depth (a measure of clarity) of 73 feet. The Blackwing 73 is a tribute to Lake Tahoe and other landmarks thatsimilarly impart art and society. It comes in a Tahoe blue finish, has a raised texture representative of the lake's topography, and includes a white imprint and white eraser.

After the initial success of Palomino's graded graphite pencils, Cal Cedar was able to revive the legendary Blackwing pencil. The Blackwing was originally a Eberhart-Faber pencil that had been discontinued and later obtained cult status as pencil aficionados were paying exorbitant amounts at auction for dead stock. The Blackwing had gained a reputation as the pencil of choice for Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer and Academy Award winners, and now they have become available to a whole new generation of creatives.
