Blackwing Volumes - Vol. 54
The mix of elements in the Blackwing Vol. 54 make it one the most unique Volumes to date. The method Blackwing used to develop the 54 is as unique as the brightly-colored end result. Blackwing designers utilized their own version of the surrealist exercise known as Exquisite Corpse. In this case, they broke the pencil down into its five elements of graphite, lacquer, imprint, ferrule, eraser and randomly selected one from each category. The rose barrel, teal imprint, silver ferrule, and blue eraser create a combination that is right at home among surrealist art. The much coveted, extra-firm graphite only adds to this pencil's appeal. The name 54 is a reference to 54 rue du Chateau, the address where a house once stood in Paris and where a group of artists and friends came up with the idea of Exquisite Corpse.
